Mrs. Too Small

Based on the text by Michał Kaźmierczak.

The action takes place in a forest and tells the story of Mr. Shrew, who one winter morning notices that his wife is not in their shared bed. Initially terrified, he eventually calms down, remembering that a characteristic of shrews is to decrease in size for winter (Dehnel’s phenomenon – the effect of seasonal variability of internal organs in small insectivorous mammals /shrews/, discovered and described in 1949 based on Białowieża material by the eminent zoologist and theriologist, Prof. Dr. August Dehnel. Białowieża Forest Encyclopedia). For many months, his loved ones are unable to deliver the most difficult news to Mr. Shrew. Some time passes. When spring arrives, the main character asks his wife to start growing larger. However, no one is visible beside him except his forest friends. They decided to “be close by” Mr. Shrew all the time, because it had been an “exceptionally difficult winter” for him.
