“My name is Lisa. I am a girl. You can probably tell that from my name. I am seven years old and will soon be eight.” Almost every adult knows the opening lines of “The Children of Noisy Village”; every adult also envies the child who picks up Astrid Lindgren’s book for the first time.
Noisy Village is a tiny village located somewhere in the Swedish countryside. Tiny is even an overstatement; there are only three houses in it. In each one live children and their parents. But let us leave the adult world aside and focus on what is truly i m p o r t a n t. Lisa, Lasse, Bosse, Britta, Anna, and Olle are an exceptionally close-knit group of friends. In fact, they can hardly stand being without each other, although of course sometimes both the girls and the boys have their own ideas for play. But you can play in Noisy Village on practically every occasion and in hundreds of different ways, and each one seems better than the last!
