Based on stories by Åsa Lind, translated by Agnieszka Stróżyk (Zakamarki Publishing House).
“The Sand Wolf” is a journey into the world of childhood imagination, experiences, and universal truths. It is the story of a friendship between a girl and her extraordinary companion, seen through the eyes of a now-adult woman. It is a return to the world of childhood experiences, in which all the values most important to us are focused as if through a lens.
Karo – the now-adult Karusia – returns to her family home, to her beloved places. She returns there to rediscover her identity in memories and to remember who she is deep in her heart. She is helped by the Sand Wolf – an unusual childhood friend who reveals to her the magic and charm of the surrounding world.
The Sand Wolf knows the answers to the most extraordinary questions and serves perfectly as a confidant of secrets when others fail, unaccustomed to the child’s world of absurdities and games. Sometimes we need such support as adults too. And although it seems that our extraordinary companions left us long ago – our memories come to our aid – priceless pebbles, each of which tells its own story. Such as the story of friendship with the Sand Wolf.
The simplicity of the narrative combines here with the deep world of childhood imagination and emotions. During the journey through this world, the boundaries blur not only between reality and fantasy, but also between the present, past, and future.
